Coaches Corner

COACHING TIPS


Division 7
  • Should not exceed 60 minutes.
  • Every child should have a ball
  • Warm up should include movement education problems and soccernastics
  • Games activities, mostly body awareness, along with maze games (20min)
  • Finish with 3v3 or 4v4 game to small goals , no goaltenders  (20min)

Coaching points: Players at this age group have no sense of pace, take plenty of water breaks. Be animated and fun. Parents should participate but NOT coach.


Division 6
  • Should not exceed 60 minutes.
  • Every child should have a ball
  • Warm up should include movement education problems and soccernastics
  • Introduce partner activities, a mixture of individual and partner activities
  • Add more maze –type games. Introduce target games.
  • Finish with 4x4 or 5x5 game to two goals , no goaltenders  (20min)

Coaching points: Players at this age group still have no sense of pace, take plenty of water breaks. Be animated and fun. Parents should participate but NOT coach.


Division 5
  • Should not exceed 1 hour and 15 minutes.
  • Warm up, partner and small group activities, stretching. (15min)
  • Introduce small group activities ( 4 to 6 players )
  • Add more directional games. Play to targets and or zones.(25min)
  • Conclude with small sided games 6x6 game to two goals , with goaltenders (25min)
  • Finish with cool down activity (10 min)

Coaching points: Players at this age group have sense of pace, have them think ahead. Take plenty of water breaks. Be fun and positive. Parents should NOT coach.


Division 3 & 4
  • Should not exceed 1 hour and 30 minutes.
  • Warm up, partner and small group activities, stretching. (15min)
  • Introduce large group / team activities ( 6 to 8 players )
  • Directional games. Play to targets and or zones. (25min)
  • Conclude with small sided games 8x8 game to two goals , with goaltenders (25min)
  • Finish with cool down activity (10 min)

Coaching points:  Flexibility training is key to prevention of injury. Take plenty of water breaks. Be fun and positive.
